SHEIN Review

Hey there Curvy Girls,

I was recently asked by SHEIN, a clothing company, to give my thoughts on some items from their new plus size/curve line and have written my reviews below.

My initial thoughts going in was to be very wary of the sizing of the items due to my bad experiences with similar overseas companies. The company allowed me to pick two pieces from their inventory, from which I chose the two dresses pictured below. The items on the site were fashion forward and trendy while still being affordable and decently priced.

I ordered both items in a 3XL, the equivalent to a size 22, which is my normal dress size (depending on the shape and the material of an item), and hoped for the best. When the items arrived, they both looked exactly like the photo online and did not look cheap despite the affordable price point. Despite living up to my expectations, in regards to appearance, one item did not fit me at all just like I feared, while the other fit like a glove. With the other dress just siting there waiting for review, I recruited my lovely mother and my style icon, Avadawn, to help me out. Wearing one dress, while my mother wore the other, we set out to see what SHEIN was made of.

Both items, like all things on SHEIN's site, are affordable yet trendy, making the items easy on the wallet and closet, a major plus in my book. Overall I would recommend SHEIN as a site to buy clothing from but would caution consumers to watch the sizing based on height and some materials used because they are less forgiving than others.

Dress 1

The dress I wore was the Collared V Neck Princess Seam Dress in red. The overall fit of the dress was good and the material was similar to many dresses on the market. There was a good amount of stretch in the fabric but not too much that the dress lost its structure and shape. My overall impression of this dress was that it was well made and would be perfect for date night, girls night, or even a night out partying. I would also pair this with a duster or even a blazer for a more conservative look if that is your style. The split and deep V neck gave the dress a sultry and fabulous vibe.

Dress 2

My beautiful mother wore the Grommet Detail Frill Trim Flutter Sleeve Dress and it was also in a 3XL despite the fact she is a size 12/14. The sizing for this particular dress was way off and I was so disappointed because the color of this dress is so divine. The material of dress gave no stretch, which is why the item did not fit a busty gal like myself. The shift like silhouette of the dress was very loose and gave my mother lots of room in the bust and arm area. The frilly sleeves added an extra umph to the simple silhouette and made this dress perfect for both daytime and nighttime wear. My overall impression of the dress was that the sizing was off, but the construction and wearability was there for the right body type and person.
